L.A.T. - Light Air Traveler System

The Light Air Traveler (LAT) system was developed to create a relatively simple and adaptable system for quickly tacking the traveler in light air conditions. In the TP 52 and other boats that us a Harken Pro Trim for their traveler adjustment, the gearing of this mechanism makes it quite difficult to move the traveler from side to side during tack. This “direct drive” style system allows the Pro Trim to be dis-engaged and can move the traveler car quickly and independently from the pit area, and then re-engage the pro trim after the LAT is done. This simple modification allows the boat to be more nimble during tacks and pre-start maneuvers.

This system was designed to be a simple and lightweight solution that requires minimal modification to the boat. Each LAT is fairly modular an can be tailored to fit different boat designs and configurations.

More than half of the TP 52s in the GL52 Fleet are using a Kingspoke LAT that has been configured to fit their boat.

Fresh take on the Jib Fairlead with furling line hook

Titanium deck hardware is not just strong and fancy looking, it is also highly corrosion resistant. Even with the greatest care, anodized aluminum parts are no match for carbon race boats in a salt water environment and will eventually need to be replaced. This part was was born from performance necessity in the TP52 class and a requirement for change sheet options in conjunction with furling redirection. All made in the most concise and durable platform.

PAC 52 Through Deck Fitting Design

This PAC52 through-deck titanium headstay strop fitting was re-designed by Kingspoke to reduce chafe and eliminate corrosion caused by the original aluminum part.

The chafe issue was identified and subsequently re-engineered. A 3D printed model was produced to confirm final design and used for dry fitting the part onboard. The final part was milled from titanium to combat the corrosion issue of the original aluminum. A final polish was performed to minimize friction and chafe before shipping directly to the boat.

Busy summer and growing winter

It has been a busy and exciting summer for the team at Kingspoke. Since the IMOCA 60s arrived in May through ORC Worlds in October our team has been working non-stop to keep our customers happy and we couldn't do it without them. There were some long days and a more than a few busy nights but they made it happen without sacrificing the detail oriented precision they’re known for!

As we head into our winter refit season, we are pleased to welcome Ben Quatromoni to the team as Project Manager. Ben has over 15 years of experience as boat captain for several top racing programs such as TP52 - Spookie, Botin 85 - Deep Blue, and most recently Botin 43 - Jax which have all seen extensive performance modifications from top to bottom. His meticulous attention to detail and extensive knowledge of race boat systems are an added value to any project. For project inquiries or questions feel free to reach out!
